PARTNER

David J. Altieri

David J. Altieri joined Galantucci & Patuto, Esqs. in 2010 following his clerkship with the Honorable Harry G. Carroll, who at the time served as the Presiding Judge of the Criminal Part in Bergen County before transferring to the Chancery Division.  Judge Carroll, now retired, was thereafter elevated to the Appellate Division.  In 2016, Mr. Altieri was named a Partner in the firm.  In 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 he was named to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list.

Mr. Altieri has handled matters at every level of the New Jersey courts, from the municipal level to the New Jersey Supreme Court in addition to federal matters.  He has developed trial experience both on his own and having worked in tandem with Mr. Galantucci and other attorneys in a series of trials of first and second degree cases, including matters involving murder, attempted murder, official misconduct, aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated assault.

He has appeared and argued before countless municipal courts, Superior Court in counties across New Jersey, as well as the Appellate Division in matters ranging from traffic offenses to first degree offenses, in addition to handling matters before the New Jersey Supreme Court. He currently serves as the Assistant Public Defender for the Village of Ridgewood.

He also handles both criminal and administrative matters on behalf of members of law enforcement who have been accused of wrongdoing. Disciplinary actions against members of law enforcement in both civil service and non-civil service jurisdictions have incredibly high stakes for officers of any rank. That is true now more than ever. His experience is this area has made him a “go to” attorney for officers who find themselves facing discipline of any kind, but especially with respect to removal.

He is also admitted to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, recently composing and filing a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari in that venue.

Mr. Altieri also handles a variety of civil matters in both state and federal court, including, but not limited to, sexual abuse recovery, civil forfeitures, civil rights cases, actions in lieu of prerogative writs, commercial transactions, personal injury, and has offered legal advice on contract issues to clients in a range of fields, including the entertainment industry. He has also served as local counsel in complex litigation cases involving contractual disputes, aviation law, and professional malpractice in addition to other areas of law, and has experience handling politically sensitive matters involving the administration of local government.

Within the firm, he is entrusted with dual responsibilities of appearing on behalf of clients in court and composing legal briefs for motion practice and appellate purposes.  His grasp of both traditional and the latest legal research techniques allows for the expeditious, comprehensive examination of all potential legal issues in a given matter, making him an invaluable member of the Galantucci & Patuto team.

In addition to his clerkship, Mr. Altieri has demonstrated a commitment to public service by spending four summers as a judicial intern in the chambers of the Honorable Mark Falk, U.S.M.J. in Newark, New Jersey.  He also served as a Summer Associate at Herten, Burstein, Sheridan, Cevasco, Bottinelli, Litt & Harz, L.L.C. in Hackensack, New Jersey.
