Richard G. Potter

Over the course of his career, Richard G. Potter has developed extensive trial experience in criminal and civil cases in the Superior Court and in municipal courts throughout New Jersey, including representing clients accused of Medicare fraud, firearms charges, serious drug charges, and crimes of violence, including murder, sexual assault, and child abuse.  He has also represented clients charged with serious crimes in federal court and has experience representing police officers facing departmental charges.

In handling the types of high profile cases he has, Mr. Potter has further developed familiarity with and understanding of the most effective ways in which to communicate with members of the press.  He has also represented clergy, physicians, and politicians who have faced complex, multi-faceted problems, which required appearances before professional boards and clerical tribunals in addition to the civil and criminal courts.

Mr. Potter has served as the Public Defender in the Wood-Ridge Municipal Court, East Rutherford Municipal Court, and the Central Municipal Court of Bergen County.  He has also served as the Rutherford Rent Board Attorney and Tenafly Zoning Board Attorney.

Mr. Potter understands that a client facing criminal or professional charges endures one of life’s most stressful situations.  He believes that in addition to passionate, effective advocacy, the client deserves empathetic, realistic advice.  He is dedicated to providing the best service, respectful of each client’s unique circumstances.

Mr. Potter received his undergraduate degree from St. Peter’s College and his law degree from Rutgers School of Law.  He has been a member of the bar since 1987.
