On October 8, 2021, we lost Bob Galantucci, a titan of criminal defense in New Jersey. Bob practiced law from a position removed from its quotidien, with not only an expectation of victory, but a respect for and understanding of justice at its constitutional roots. He was fearless and assertive in defense of those who sought his assistance while demonstrating a level of empathy uncommon for a man of his prominence and ability. Bob’s caring nature and charisma defined him in a way that most caught a glimpse of in the courtroom, but the manner in which he treated those closest to him was his true legacy. Nothing was more important to Bob than his family, and he showed great devotion to his wife, his sons and their wives, his nephew, and his grandchildren. The manner in which he built his firm into a family is both a model and a marvel. Bob would be the first to acknowledge that he could not have been the driving force he consistently was without Alice, Dawn, and Joanne. Jim Patuto and Phil De Vencentes formed the backbone of their triumvirate and amplified Bob’s ability for over forty years. Bob was also integral in the development and mentorship of many young attorneys. His drive and passion set an example as much as his encouragement and instruction led to the success of those he mentored. Throughout his life, Bob led with class, dignity, and empathy. He will be dearly missed.
